Bahadur Shah Park


Bahadur Shah Park is located in laksmibajar in sadarghat in old dhaka . This place is witness to many historical events. There are many important institutions and buildings around this park. Amongst them, Jagannath University, Kobi Nazrul College is mentionable. From Sadarghat , anyone can go easily by rickshaw to this place .
The park was established by the british governmwnt and that time it was named as VICTORIA PARK in accordinance with the name og queen victoria . Later on, in 1857 during SIPAHI BIDROHO many soldiers were killed and kept hanging inside the park. In 1957, in remembrance of the martyers of 1857 the park is renamed as “BAHADUR SHAH PARK “as the fought for KING BAHADUR SHAH, the last mughal emperor.
The park was mainly pioneered by Nawab Ahsan Ullah And Nawab Abdul Gani . After the death of Khaja Hafizullah , the son of the then nawab of dhaka , Sir Khaja Ahsanullah , the British government decided to make a memorial in memory of khaja hafizullah . The memorial is still there and it’s a piece of attraction for the visitors .There is another square shaped memorial placed at the heart of the park , it was also founded by the brittish government to honour Queen Victoria .
The place is beautiful and memorial of many historical events. It’s one of the most attractive places to visit by the tourists in Old Dhaka. This Place not only carries history but also a symbol of movement against british colonial rule.
